In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I collected feedback from audiences in various formats, the three main ways in which I did this was through

  • Video typing audiences comments after seeing the music video and ancillary texts.
  • Posting videos and images of my products on Twitter and Facebook.
  • And creating a survey in which people filled in.

From this video I have learned that majority of audiences liked the locations and the scenery of my video. A lot of comments made were about jump cutting shots within the chorus comments made were that it worked really well as it suited the song lyrics perfectly and look very professional. As well as this I also learned that audiences thought the change in coloured shots and non coloured shots was very creative and paired with the transitions kept them engaged. The main comment made within this video about the improvements were to get more shots of the band singing and to have the lip syncing better synced with the particular shots.

This would be the main area in which I would look at re-doing if I were to start my video over again. Ways in which I would alter this would be through getting Callum to sing the whole song throughout in front of a variety of locations giving myself a mixture of shots to use as the performance element of my music video.

“I don’t like the back page on the digipack where the titles of the songs are, I think the boxes round the titles could be changed or erased.” This comment was given by Dougie Musson; he believes the one area in which we need to improve our digipack is upon the back page specifically where the track list is located. He stated that he didn't like the effects made on the font, which was created by highlighting the text on the photo then saving the individual songs tracks as pictures. Reasons behind this may be because he doesn’t believe it works in unity with the rest of the album or that the edges of the box are too harsh. However I disagree with this comment as I think the effects on the texts is very individual therefore linking with the band’s genre. Not only this but the differences in colour from the track list page and the rest of the digipack makes the songs stand out, making audiences attract to this page. The harsh edges of the boxes serve its purpose by making the text to stand out from the dark image in the background. Overall I think this effect works well, but if I were to do something differently I would have used another picture which matched the rest of the golden/ auburn images within the digipack therefore allowing for the effects on texts to be less harsh.

we also got comments made about the ancillary texts, the feedback we got on this were that they looked very professional and the images used were very good and creative as they were images of the band singing live. Other positive comments were made on the colours, fonts and layout of the two texts. The feedback collected from this video has helped me learn that my audience really liked the presentation of my ancillary texts. The positive comments saying all three products worked well and had a common theme showed that I had created and effective combination of media products.

I also got feedback through social networking sites, evidence of this is shown below;

Sam also made a comment about my video saying that I could improve it through making more of the narrative. I agree with Sam’s constructive criticism as I only had a short area of narrative which consisted of an over the shoulder shot of Callum looking at a phone and a depressive close up shot of his face. These two shots didn’t work very well as the narrative as it didn’t develop though the video. However, the shots of the boy/ boys walking around suggests they’re searching for the female. To improve the video I would include much more narrative focusing upon the feelings of the male and the two characters as individuals.

From the last piece of audience feedback I received through the format of a survey I made two “word clouds” generated from the website  http://www.wordle.net/ the information within these images include repeated comments what my media class thought I could improve on in my music video and what I could improve on within my Ancillary texts.

MUSIC VIDEO IMPROVEMENTS

ANCILLARY TEXTS IMPROVEMENTS

The benefits I gained from the variety of audience feedback I received meant that I could analyse different audience’s responses to my products. Interviewing/ videoing people allowed me to ask specific questions on the spot getting their initial responses to how my music video looked and represented the band. As well as gain positive responses and constructive criticism on how effective my two ancillary texts worked as a combination.

The benefits of getting feedback form social networking sites such as facebook and twitter meant that I received a wider variety of responses from a larger audience. The comparisons between the two pieces of feedback are clearly shown as I received greater detail in the interviewing process, making this method of feedback more beneficial to me.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Final Magazine advert

The given feedback of our magazine draft was  "Advert is great so far, make font slightly smaller so doesn't go over so much of the image, and take the text off Callum’s head! Effects on image and red/white colours excellent."

From this I and daisy made alterations to the advert from the comments that were made. We also decided to change the colours as we made many alterations to our digipack and we wanted both the ancillary texts to correspond with one another.

Final digipack

From the feedback we got from our draft edit of the digipack we made many changes and improvements to it.

The feedback we were given included; "main image (over two panels) has been stretched to make them look like they are looking through a funny mirror! Font of lyrics needs work & is too big. Credit block would help under track list. Front cover needs work – image too small and lacking in clarity. Image under tracks and image on cover are too similar"

From this we changed many of the areas of the digipack to make it look more professional, we had recently taken more photos of the band and decided to use these as one of the comments made were that some of the photography was to similar. Another area we changed was the large image going over the two sections Daisy said we should make it smaller and put it on it's own with the lyrics within the middle, this works really well and makes room for more imagery.

The areas I worked on was the font and right side image on inside panel of the digipack. I thought the text didn't look as edgy or creative as it could have done. I looked upon http://www.dafont.com/ and found a more creative and interesting font called "devil breeze" which we used for majority of the text on the digipack. Once the text was sorted I worked on adding more imagery, we took two separate images of Callum and Elliot and I decide to edit them together. To do this I got the images in the correct positioning and started to blur the top section into black making the images look like they belong together.
